With work on Network Rail's multi-million pound upgrade of railway lines through Reading now underway, Reading Borough Council has announced proposals for a new southern station entrance and concourse to complement the major rail scheme. New entrance and concourse proposals are intended to create a world class building, which, alongside other developments in the area will form a major gateway into Reading.
The council says this provides an excellent opportunity to improve access to the station and upgrade the public transport links at the station and surrounding area. The rail scheme will require the closure of Station Approach and as a result, the network of roads in close vicinity to the station will need to be reconfigured and the bus, taxi, cycle, coach and drop-off facilities using the area reorganised.
