Gallery 250: Limmo Peninsula shafts

Pictures from July 2012

Pictures show progress on the 45 metre deep shaft at Limmo, near Canning Town, where Crossrail eastern tunnel contractor Dragados/Sisk will assemble and launch tunnel boring machines bound for Farringdon.

The photos show the tunnel eyes ready for TBM launch and construction work on tunnels that will link the main shaft with a temporary, auxiliary shaft. These are necessary to provide the space to join up TBM shields and cutter heads with the back-up part of the machine ahead of launch.
